Top 3 Tips For Preventing Low Back Pain

Tip # 1 Stay Active

Your body was made to move and not rest all day. The best part about staying active is that it’s anything you enjoy! Swimming, walking, playing basketball, weightlifting, etc…it doesn’t matter! The CDC recommends exercising 30 minutes a day which equals to 2% of your day dedicated to remaining active! Get up and go on a walk. Your spine will thank you!

Tip # 2 Drink Water

Did you know the majority of your body is water? Roughly 60-70% of everything about you is water! Therefore, it’s HUGE to stay hydrated throughout the day. It’s very easy for your body to lose water. You can lose water by sweating, urinating, and even breathing it out! Don’t worry! There’s an easy way to remember how much water you need every day. Take your body weight, divide it by 2 and that’s how many fluid ounces of water you need per day! Here’s an example:

100 lbs / 2 = 50 fluid ounces of water per day

Also, if you’re thirsty, that’s your body telling you you’re dehydrated! Listen to your body and drink up as much water as you can!

Tip #3 Reduce Stress

Stress impacts not just our emotions but our physical wellbeing. It starts our “fight or flight” response and never turns it off. Creating extremely tight muscles, poor digestive health, weaken immune system, and pain throughout the body. The best way to avoid stress is limit your exposure to triggers and practice relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, nasal breathing, and medication. Over the long haul, these tips and tricks will ensure your back pain doesn’t creep up.
